Haz-Mat Technician

NWFF Environmental is a growing  environmental services company and we need quality Haz-mat Technicians. We’re looking for highly motivated and reliable people to add to our response team.

Duties

  • Perform environmental cleanup in and around energized utility substations
  • Emergency spill response in and around water and on land in a variety of settings
  • Commercial vehicle operations
  • Equipment operations: hand tools (hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, and gas powered), forklift and heavy equipment (excavator, loader, and backhoe)
  • Deploy and process absorbent material
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Be legal to work in the US
  • Have a valid driver’s license & satisfactory 3 year driving record
  • Pass a drug test
  • Pass a DOT physical and be medically qualified to wear a respirator
  • Be available to work 7 days a week
    Be available to work anytime day or night
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Perform work in a safe manner
  • Work independently and on a team
  • Work in high pressure environments and meet required deadlines
  • Be able to work in a Level B suit (fully encapsulated) and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)

Preferred Credentials

  • 40hr. Hazwoper Certificate  (training available)
  • CDL
  • TWIC

 

Alaska Positions

 NWFF owns and operates a Fire Extinguisher business in Kodiak Alaska.  Positions are available for qualified Class II and Class III fire extinguisher technicians.  On-site training is available. In Alaska, fire extinguisher permits are issued under the Alaska Department of Public Safety, Fire and Life Safety Division.  The program is contained in Alaska statute 13AAC 50.030(h).

Fire Extinguisher Technician Class II:

Must be familiar with NPFA 10 and applicable State of Alaska statues and be able to pass the required test for Class II

Perform annual maintenance, recharge, distribution and tagging of portable fire extinguishers.

Perform general maintenance to include the removal and replacement of parts and/or powder, and any required internal inspections.

Must be a familiar with all other pertinent maintenance issues identified in NFPA 10.

Complete electronic and/or handwritten inspection reports

Assist with scheduling all service work

Must have good customer service and problem-solving skills

Must be able to work in all environments including boats, military installations, private organizations, municipalities and businesses.

Must be able to work independently and adhere to all prescribed safety procedures

Fire Extinguisher Technician Class III:

Must be familiar with NPFA 10 and applicable State of Alaska statues and be able to pass the required test for Class III.

Inspect, recharge, distribution, maintenance and hydrostatic testing of portable fire extinguishers. This includes all the elements of Class II and the ability to perform hydrostatic tests on the portable units.

Must be familiar with NPFA 10 and all other maintenance issues identified for Class II and Class III

Must be familiar with the Compressed Gas Association Manual (C-1 – 2009 – 10th Edition/Section 4).

Complete electronic and/or handwritten inspection reports

Assist with scheduling all service work

Must have good customer service and problem-solving skills

Must be able to work in all environments including boats, military installations, private organizations, municipalities and businesses.

Must be able to work independently and adhere to all prescribed safety procedures

Part-Time and Full-Time positions available.  Pay depends upon experience. Health, disability and retirement benefit package offered for full time employees.
