Emergency Spill Response & Booming - Water
Marine, River & Lake Based Response
NWFF is classified as a U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Oil Spill Removal Organization (OSRO). We have met or exceeded the stringent USCG requirements for waterway spill response equipment such as: containment boom, deployment boats, skimmers, portable storage and other necessary spill cleanup equipment. Our strategically located offices in the Northwest allow us to respond directly to marine and waterway spills in Oregon, Washington and California. NWFF has a variety of watercraft which allow us to effectively deploy and maintain spill response media such as hard boom and absorbent boom.
Some spills can be anticipated and NWFF provides proactive booming or “Pre-Booming” of ships and boats during refueling or when in distress. Pre-booming creates a sealed containment area completely surrounding the vessel. Should any fuel, oil or other floating hazardous material be released, the release would be contained within the encircled boom where it could be collected by skimmers or absorbents. This preventative measure helps keep our waterways clean during petroleum product transfers over water. The NWFF response teams are experienced in pre-booming in river, lakes, harbors and open water. Over-water transfer pre-booming is a current requirement by the Washington State Department of Ecology.
